The cappuccino & its distinctive cups
Edit
A cappuccino is actually a kind of coffee that is made by blending espresso as well as steamed milk. It's thought of as one of the most tricky coffees to make, and baristas need a certain amount of ability to create a quality cup.
The name of the drink is believed to have started in Italy around five centuries ago and that it was named since the brown color of the cappuccino looked like those of habits worn by Capuchin friars. The earliest documented use of the word cappuccino merely extends back to 1948, but it is known that the coffee had been cherished in Italy through the early 1900's.
The machine which is needed to make espresso was built in 1901 by Luigi Bezzera, and by the 1950's the cappuccino coffee was familiar with many people throughout most of the planet. The organization Gaggia had developed its piston machine which was able to conveniently produce the foamed milk needed for the cappuccino, and helped improve the drinks widespread reputation.
When preparing a cappuccino the shot of espresso is first poured into the cup and then the steamed milk is slowly swirled in to rest on top of the coffee. Sometimes baristas can prepare the drink in such a way as a design or image might be left on top of the beverage. The flavors of the cappuccino may be changed by altering the milk to foam ratio to fit a persons palate. Common variants include the latte which is prepared with additional milk and also the chiaro which is made with extra foam. The completed cappuccino drink is often sprinkled with chocolate or cinnamon.
Most people prefer to drink from porecalin cappuccino cups since they help retain the heat and also have a great traditional overall look and feeling to them. Cappuccino is a drink that is meant to be appreciated over a relaxing spell and the foam head on the coffee helps it keep its warmth. The cappuccino cup is generally bought in a size of 6 oz that is the perfect size, both larger sized and smaller sizes can be obtained but smaller sized cups rarely have sufficient space to allow for the foam head.
The cappuccinos are traditionally served in a broad bowl type porcelain cup which is able to keep heat well and helps to ensure that the drinker will experience both espresso and milk / steamed milk with just about every sip.
